I am a straight HIV positive female who just recently met a negative guy. When we decided to go out on our first date I told him straight out that I was HIV positive and if that was going to be an issue for him in anyway that here was the opportunity to back out. He took it very well and said "I guess we'll just have to be careful then". We went out and had a great time. Since then he has been e-mailing me daily and calling regularly. He works out of town so he isn't expected in back in my area for 3 more weeks, but is actually expressing interest in us seeing each other again.

I am totally glad I decided to tell him right from the get go, I do know that if I would have waited until we had gotten to know each other and then sprung it on him and he rejected me I would have been devastated, but his way he had the opportunity to back out before either of us had anything invested.

I guess we'll now just see how this plays out.

Lucky you! I'm too afraid to reveal it just yet; so instead, I just shy away from men that approaches me. That's why I chose this dating site. I rather get rejected from a poz man-well, for that matter, the so called negative guy could be like me. I would probably never know. I just wished that I had the guts to tell. Maybe not. But I will never put a man in harms way.

`Luck you girls. It is easier for a girl to tell the guy that she's infected than a guy. I know, I have been there, done that. I have dated negative girls and just hate it when it comes to tell that, you're positive. Like you said, some people take it differently.
Good luck out there in the dating scene.

I guess if you are honest in all that you do in life things will always work out for the best no mater how bad it feels at the time.

if i am interested in potential long term with this person then absolutely share before intimacy.
i have found that it is really tough to open up in the first place... the closer he gets the more distant i get... it sucks. that is why i think dating negative has been so tough. i end up sort of letting the relationship just self destruct.

`Well, this is all new for me and I'm so confused on dating. It's hard because every guy is not going to be acceptable to it. I definitely haven't been dating every since I was diagnosed last summer. I don't go out to social places anymore. I've been staying to myself and not going out at all. I feel lonely and empty inside when it comes to men. I don't know what to do when it comes to dating?

l just today, l was deeply moved by what you wrote because l understand what you are going through. You want to be in a relationship but the thought of revealing your condition is too hard, we are all different some people have no problem telling their partner to be some find it difficult.
You cant live like that, you probably need to ask him if its possible to go for tests both of you as if you dont know your conditon. lf he agrees then thats the first step. A lot of people have done that whom l know and it worked, its hard just to tell someone just like that. lf he really wants to be with you , no matter what he will stick by you, who knows he might be positive himself. lPeople need to be educated about hiv its a death sentence.Best wishes

`I have been in a 6 relationship that has recently ended. When we first got together He told me he was positive and I didn't care. He educated me and I learned to fear it even less. I just loved him so much it didn't matter. He was worth the risk. Come a year l8ter i found out that i had it myself the WHOLE time we were together. We had different strains of the virus so he wasn't the one that gave it to me. We eneded up getting married in Key West and besides taking pills every day to maintain it. I always felt like i never had it. I guess you could say I was lucky i married into it. Well the issue at hand now is that we are seperated and it seems the past has finally caught up with me. I have real bad anziety , mostly with really trivial things. I'm bound to meet someone i like that isn't positive or if i'm lucky someone that is. usually lightning doesn't hit twice. when is the best time to tell someone something like that. dearing the we are just friends stage? I don't mind really telling one person, but usually one person finding out means 20 poeple finding out. Is there "rules of conduct" or steps in doing this? rejection petrifies me. I just feel lost....
