Dear friends,
I almost went for it on another website. There are people with bad intentions to scam you on money. I met this American girl living in Nigeria for a peace keeping assignment. The story was quite blur. I did my Internet research and found out that this woman have taken a'lot of cash from people in USA and in the Netherlands. She has multiple profiles online with a quite face as a picture sometimes African other times cucasaian! Be aware, do not send any money for anything...

Thanks for mentioning this.
We have a section on the site named 'Online Dating Safety', and you can see the link in the HELP section of the site (which is in the navigation at the top of the site).
We'd like to recommend that everyone take a moment to review the 'Dating Scams' already listed within the 'Online Dating Safety' area.
Play safe, and have fun!
:)

There are a few of my friends that talk about this all of the time. Some person from some country wants to meet someone for the purpose of "meeting mr right" but in reality wants a ticket away from their home counry. I also heard of that scam going on. scary. |

I am from Africa and I know that scams are common from Africa. Its a pity as my fellow Africans are giving us all a bad name.
Just remember we are all not out to scam. Some of us are really looking for friends out there.

well, since i'm new to this i have concerns. also my family keeps telling me to be carefull. but i'm not a child, to be protected from preditors and i don't have the resources to send anyone money, so , i guess i'm wondering what are the dangers? are there any i should be on the lookout for? i've done a little time, so i kinda know how to keep my eyes on the lookout, but i also know that's one of the most important times to be carefull(when you think your being carefull). what are my risks aside for losing money? can i get a pull-up on this, anyone?

When u start dating u might think that since u are with someone who is hiv poz u do not need protection....This is not true ...as far as I know there are many strains of the virus so u need to be prtoected and of course there are the other concerns of becoming dually infected....with another virus such as hep c or any other.....Sometimes it may feel hopeless but u when u begin to really have a relationship with yourself u might become more satisfied then u have been in all your relationships combined....So never lose hope because the answer to your problems may not be with others but within yourself....OMG...getting to heavy...just lighten up....and live in Shanti (PEACE)...Alan or basque

Having been on the "dating scene" for quite some time, I have lost count of the number of scammers on all sites - and I have had friends that have been taken as Im sure many of you have.
Though I would never discriminate on the basis of where someone is, I do discriminate on pattern recognition and their choice of words. In many cases, they will "trip up" so to speak - you just have to listen very carefully and really pay attention to where they are "leading" the conversation.
Fraud causes far more harm than monetary losses alone; it erodes an already fragile peace, destroys any remaining semblance of trust even in our own community, and can have devastating conscequences.
As caustic as it might come across, your mind is your most powerful weapon and greatest ally - listen to it. Your heart is not always so well defended.

Dealing with those seeking a way out of their own country is not as difficult as it may seem, just dont go there.
Furthermore, you are protected by the same draconian laws that limti your freedoms - the laws in both Canada and the U.S are abundantly clear - if someone is POZ they are NOT allowed to immigrate - period, end of story.
I've heard stories of some that have done so, and some have tried to convince I can sponsor them - my attorney tells me otherwise.
Ad as for the "Im trapped in Africa get me out" - tell them to consult their embassy.
Common sense people, thats all.

Hi all! I'm glad someone other than me is aware of these con artist from Africa....I get mail from these woman all the time. They post a picture of some beutiful model looking caucasion woman and they say they are from the states but in reality they r con artist..I was stupid enough to give my phone number to one of these ladies. She claimed she was born and raised in Houston Texas but when she called me she sounded like a Zulu warrior..I blocked her from my number and from now on if any of these ladies mentions africa I block them from my mailing list. It's a pitty that there r woman from africa that are not con artist but I am not willing to take a chance on any of them...Beware men.. they r all over.. on all the dating sights..they usually say they r on a modeling assignment or there mom is sick..Than they ask for money.......Thank you for posting this info

.Yes, there is a lot of fraud going on. Why can't people be straight up? I met this guy on a site and he was everything a woman could want except he had a lot of shaky friends hanging around all the time. Come to find out he was gay. WTF!

I had messages from a guy living in London. Messaged back and forth a few times. He said he was africamerican...working in Legal services. Gave me his email address and asked for more about myself.
I just told him a few basic things and asked about him.
Turns out he is African, from Zimbabwe....and "not working at present due to visa issues" Calling me gorgeous etc though I hadn't yet sent a pic....haha, He must have thought I was a mug..Needless to say I have blocked him completely

For future reference, we ask that members notify us of any member on the site who is not in the location listed within their profile.
It is against the TOS (Terms of Service) for someone to list a location within their profile different from where they are.
The reason for this is that it helps us limit the likelihood of members being spammed/scammed. If someone says they are in London, but then tells you they are working in Africa...let us know.
And while this is a little off topic, if any member of HIV Passions (or any other site in the network) asks you to do them any type of favor that involves money, let us know.
Typical scams include:
Asking for travel money
Asking for money to help a sick relative
Asking for a shortterm loan to deal with school payments
Asking for a shortterm loan to pay for a medical procedure
Asking someone to cash a check for them
Reminder: Don't give out any personal information, and don't send anyone any money...ever.
