Recent transplant to FL in need of new friends... I recently moved to Clearwater, FL this past year after retiring 15 years ago and spending most of that time on the island of Puerto Rico. Life was so very enjoyable for about 5 years until I came down with Dengue fever...or, so my doctor thought. It was later confirmed I was HIV+, and I found a great infectious disease doctor in San Juan who took great care of me in between visits to NJ...where I had lived for 45 years. It was there I had quarterly examinations and tests run, until I lost my health insurance.
Life took a turn for the worse as I was forced to go on government support on the island after my condition deteriorated...I officially had AIDS. I attempted to remain positive, but finally realized that I was going to have to return to the States for proper care and support...that which I was receiving in Puerto Rico was unacceptable.
I left behind my home, and my partner of 9 years...
Since settling in FL, I have become involved with my community by serving on the board of directors. I have become a "Big" to a young boy who suffers from Asperger's and ADS, and I also am a Hospice volunteer...working a few days a week at the ASAP...Aids Service Association Pinellas...office in Clearwater.
I now have a Miniature Schnauzer cohabitating with me in my new home...she's precious, and I love her. I have come to realize, however, that I need to broaden my circle of friends outside those in my immediate community, and those I associate with through my various activities. I now want to meet and include new friends in my life who are gay and HIV+...
Always with the hope of an encounter with that special someone...
