Helloooooo? Anybody out there? Is this thing on? I can't possibly be the only HIV+, heterosexual, Caucasian person in this state, but it sure feels like it sometimes! I've been infected for about 25 years (diagnosed for over 16 now) & am extremely healthy. I've been undetectable for at least the last 10 years. I have a 16-year-old, also infected & undetectable. I would absolutely love to meet a man who could understand this disease & not run away screaming at disclosure time, but if there are any nearby, they're not showing themselves. I live in a small rural town about 20 miles outside Portland, and this is NOT an HIV-friendly community (think lots of rednecks with narrow little minds!). I'm unwilling to "come out" about my health status in this town, mainly to protect my child from ostracism. I'm intelligent, love outdoor activities & sick humor, enjoy all types of music except country, and am not hideous to look at. I don't smoke, and drink very rarely. I generally don't even try to date, because I'm really, REALLY tired of men running away like scared bunnies when I disclose. Seems like after 30 years of knowing about this disease, people would be less ignorant, but that's not the case. Apparently there are still folks out there who think they can get infected by breathing the same air I do or sitting too close to me. It's a lonely life, and I don't want to be alone all the time. I'd like to go on dates & have fun & feel close to someone (you know, like a "normal" person). By the way, I'm 50 years old & not falling apart too badly. If you're a straight man with a good mind & a sense of humor (but don't pepper your e-mails with "LOL"), please contact me. Did I mention I'm a good cook?
